Week At A Glance:

Math: What measurement terms do you need to know to take part in the Potato Olympics? This week students are taking part in the Potato Olympics. During this unit they will be learning and practicing measuring and weighing techniques using scales, rulers, and tape measures.

Science: What are the characteristics of an Olympic Potato? Students will be learning about the scientific method while predicting and recording results during the Potato Olympics.

Language Arts: What is a metaphor? How do you use context to confirm meaning? How do you write a friendly letter? Spelling Quiz on Friday. Check Mrs. Vargo’s webpage or your child’s agenda for the spelling list.

Social Studies: What was the Ice Age? What is the land bridge theory?

Special Announcements:
P.T.O. Membership-$5.00 per family
We have a company that will embroider student names or initials on their book bags. They will come to the school and get the bags AND return them on the same day! The cost to students will be $8.00 per bag. The school will get $2.00 back for each bag that is embroidered. We will send home flyers on September 8, and they will begin collecting bags on September 11.
If you have a child in grades 3-5 you may refer them for Screening for the Gifted and Talented program (GATE). All students in grade 2 will be tested. You may stop by the main office to pick up a referral form or you may request one be sent home by your child’s homeroom teacher. All referrals need to be completed by October 15, 2008.
