Newsletter Sept. 22

Week At A Glance:

Math: What are the different properties of lines? What are the various quadrangles and their properties? What are the characteristics of polygons? What are the three types of transformations? How do you prove congruency through transformations?

Science: What environmental forces create weather? What tools do we use to predict weather? What are the three types of clouds and how do they form? What is the process of the water cycle?

Language Arts: Sorry I forgot to attach the High Frequency Word List last week. They are on the back of this page. Be sure to see your child’s pretest in their folder. We will be discussing conflict and resolution in our story My Name is Isabel. In Spelling we will focus on various ways to spell the long i sound. (mine, tie, wild, type, smile, drive, size, blind, visit, thick, die, prize, NO EXCUSE WORDS: again, any) We will also be working with imperative and exclamatory sentences. Due to our Computer times for our research lesson in Social Studies, Spelling Test and Comprehension Quiz for My Name is Isabel will be as follows: 1st period-Friday, 2nd period-Thursday.

Social Studies: We will continue to discuss the Eastern Woodlands and Great Plains Indians, their customs and ways of life. The students will research on the web the Cheyenne people and write a paragraph based upon three facts they found.

· If you have a child in grades 3-5 you may refer them for Screening for the Gifted and Talented program (GATE). All students in grade 2 will be tested. You may stop by the main office to pick up a referral form or you may request one be sent home by your child’s homeroom teacher. All referrals need to be completed by October 15, 2008. If you have any questions contact Donna Baumgarner at 886-4520 or donnab@oconee.k12.sc.us .
· The next date for embroidery will be October 1. The cost is $8.00 and the school will get $2.00 for each bag that is embroidered. Make sure the money is in the book bag of the student on October 1.
