Week At A Glance:

Math: Why do we borrow in subtraction? What are the tools for geometry? What are the various angle sizes? What is the difference between parallel and perpendicular lines?

Science: What are the characteristics of a thunderstorm? What is thunderstorm safety? What are the characteristics of a tornado? What is tornado safety? What are the characteristics of a hurricane? What is hurricane safety?

Language Arts: What are the characteristics of fiction and nonfiction? The students will be engaged in various discussions about reading. We will create a list of types of fiction and nonfiction.

Social Studies: How did the Native Americans rise? Who are the Maya, Aztec and Inca people?

If your child has not brought in headphones yet, we will need them for the Computer Labs!
We have a company that will embroider student names or initials on their book bags. They will come to the school and get the bags AND return them on the same day! The cost to students will be $8.00 per bag. The school will get $2.00 back for each bag that is embroidered. We will send home flyers on September 8, and they will begin collecting bags on September 11.
If you have a child in grades 3-5 you may refer them for Screening for the Gifted and Talented program (GATE). All students in grade 2 will be tested. You may stop by the main office to pick up a referral form or you may request one be sent home by your child’s homeroom teacher. All referrals need to be completed by October 15, 2008.
