(Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Vargo)
Week At A Glance:
Math: What are statistical landmarks? How does a data collection method impact survey results? What is decimal place value?
Science: What are various forms of energy? What is an electromagnet? If your child is completing a science fair project at home please have them turn in a note detailing what their project is and what their plan is to carry it out. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. Check out my blog for science fair ideas: www.scienceandmathwithmrssmith.blogspot.com
Language Arts: We will discuss how to summarize informational text. We will put this to practice not only with our story Nights of the Pufflings but we will also research penguins on the internet, summarize the important facts and write a paragraph about our research. Spelling this week will NOT be a traditional spelling test. However, we will discuss various ways to spell the sound /ar/ and will be grouping words together that spell the /ar/ sound. Grades will be taken on various work throughout the week.
Social Studies: We will learn about the European Explorers. We are getting close to the end of Chapter 3. The Chapter 3 test will be on Wednesday, November 12th. I have made a deal with both periods that if ALL students make a 93% or higher they will have earned a free period. On the free period day they may bring games from home to play with their friends. I will also check with Mr. McLeod about extra recess during that period as well. This was spurred on by a couple of students asking if I would reward them if everyone in that period made an A+. I suggested let’s go with everyone in the period making an A. I’m thrilled to see them take initiative to not only set goals for themselves but them to also inspire their classmates with an obtainable goal! So begin to study now!
