(Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Vargo)
Week At A Glance:
Math: How do various fractions compare in size (0, ½, and 1)? What are the numerator and denominator? How do we find fractional parts of sets? What are equivalent fractions? How do we find equivalent fractions?
Science: We will begin our study on light.
Language Arts: We will read the story Look to the North by Jean Craighead George. Our focus will be on summarizing important information from text. We will also learn that pronouns take the place of nouns and antecedents are the noun or nouns that the pronouns refer to. We will not have a spelling test due to our short week but we will discuss and learn that ei, eigh and ie can say long a and long e. Dr. Moore, our literacy coach, will come on Thursday and do a practice writing activity for our PASS Writing Assessment, which will be March 10 and 11. We look forward to her visit and writing activity.
Social Studies: We will continue Chapter 8: The Road to War. Students will begin their research projects this week. All research will be completed during class time. However, if students would like to dress up as the individual they have researched, they may do so. Some presentations will be Friday, February 20th. More information will be sent home later this week stating who you child has chosen to research, as well as their presentation date. This long weekend may be a good chance to gather a costume. Please note dressing up is NOT a requirement for this project! Our focus will be on the process of doing a research project and writing a summary!
