Week At A Glance:

Math: What are number sentences? How do you determine if they are true or false? What is the use of parentheses in number sentences? How do we solve for a pattern or function box?

Science: What are planets? What do planets orbit? What is the difference between the rocky planets and the gaseous planets?

Language Arts: Red Writing Hood How does the sequence of events in a story affect the outcome of the story? Can I compare with adjectives? When do I change y to i when spelling words? What are simple and compound sentences?

Social Studies: Chapter 10: Forming a New Government What were the Articles of Confederation? What were the main goals for the Articles of Confederation?

Special Announcements:
· Our PTO, will be sponsoring a MEGA Coupon Book fundraiser. The MEGA Coupon Book costs $25.00 and has $7,200.00 worth of savings. If each student sells ONE book, our school receives $5,000.00 profit…the potential is there for BIG savings for each family as well as funds for our school
· On Monday, March 31st, registration packets for the 2009-2010 school year will be going home for students in K-4th grade. Please fill out this paperwork and return to the school by Friday, April 3rd. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school.

Week At A Glance:

Math: What are number sentences? How do you determine if they are true or false? What is the use of parentheses in number sentences? How do we solve for a pattern or function box? MAP test on Friday March 27th.

Science: What are planets? What do planets orbit? What is the difference between the rocky planets and the gaseous planets?

Language Arts: We will be MAP testing on Tuesday. No Spelling test due to short week.

Social Studies: How did other nations help the Continental Army? What happened at the Battle of Cowpens? What events lead up to the end of the Revolutionary War?

Special Announcements:
· We are in need of the following items: Tissues, Clorox Wipes, Band-Aids, 4” x 6” index cards-ruled front with plain back. Any items you can send in will be greatly appreciated!

Week At A Glance:

Math: What are number sentences? How do you determine if they are true or false? What is the use of parentheses in number sentences? What are open sentences? What is a variable?

Science: We will begin a new unit on space. What are planets? What do planets orbit? What is the difference between the rocky planets and gaseous planets?

Language Arts: The Days of King Adobe by Joe Hayes: What is the main idea of a text? What are the details to support the main idea? What is imaginative literature? What is an adjective and an article? Can I spell words with the prefixes non-, in- and re-?

Social Studies: What is the Declaration of Independence? How did the Patriots help win the war?

Special Announcements:
· The remainder of the Stone Mtn. field trip money is due by Wednesday, March 25th. Balance notices will be stapled to your child’s agenda today.

Week At A Glance:

Math: First period will have a test on fractions on Thursday March 5th. A study guide will be sent home on Monday. The study guide will have sample problems from the test. It is also in the same format the test will be in. How do various fractions compare in size (0, ½, and 1)? What are the numerator and denominator? How do we find fractional parts of sets? What are equivalent fractions? What are improper fractions and mixed numbers? Second period will begin a new unit on division and algebra.

Science: How does light travel? How can light be absorbed, reflected, or refracted by objects? How does light behave when it strikes materials? What is ROY G. BIV? We will be ending our unit on light this week. Be on a look out for a study guide.

Language Arts: We will focus on preparing for the PASS Writing Test which will be March 10 and 11. (NO story this week, NO Spelling words due to our test preparation)

Social Studies: Due to preparations for the PASS Writing Test we will take a break this week from Social Studies. The students did VERY well on their Research Projects. However, we did not have the opportunity to share them yet. If there are breaks in our schedule this week we will share a few. If not we will do this after March 11.

· In honor of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday there will be multiple celebrations at Westminster Elementary this week.
Monday: Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss - Wear red, white and black like cat in the hat
Tuesday: Fox in Socks Day - wear crazy socks
Wednesday: My Many Colored Days Day - wear your favorite color
Thursday: Cat in the Hat Day - wear hats
Friday: I Am Not Going to Get Out of Bed Day - wear your most comfortable clothes day
