Week At A Glance:
Math: How can we show change over time? What type of graph shows change? What is probability? What are the two major forms of measurement? How do we convert measurements in the U.S. Customary System?
Science: We are beginning our unit on animals and plants. What are the major groups of organisms and how do we classify them?
Language Arts: We will focus on poetry this week. We are very blessed to have Dr. Rebecca Moore our Literacy Coach join us for this fun and exciting unit!!! Welcome back to our classroom Dr. Moore! We will learn about stanza, rhyme scheme and repetition. We will also have fun writing some poetry of our own!
Social Studies: Chapter 11: The Young United States How did political parties form? How did the United States expand westward? What was the war of 1812?
Special Announcements:
· Any families willing to send a healthy snack to school during PASS Testing week, please let us know. Last year the school was able to provide snacks for this week, but due to budget cuts snacks will not be provided. Some ideas are cereal bars, fruit snacks, pretzels or chips, juice boxes or water bottles, etc…. We will be PASS Testing Tuesday, May 12 through Friday, May 15. We haven’t heard from anyone…we are still in need of some snacks.

Week At A Glance:
Math: How can we show change over time? What type of graph shows change? What is probability?
Science: We will review our unit on the solar system and test on Wednesday. Then we will begin our unit on animals and plants.
Language Arts: A Very Important Day by Maggie Rugg Herold: What is the author’s purpose for writing a text? What are some good test taking strategies? What is a verb? What are main and helping verbs? What are action and linking verbs? What is the process for completing a research paper?
Social Studies: Chapter 10: Forming a New Government What are the Bill of Rights? We will review Lessons 2 & 3 and have a TEST on FRIDAY, April 24th.

Science: What is the sun like? How does the sun affect the earth? What are the phases of the moon? What is the moon like?
Language Arts: Fire by Joy Masoff: How can headings, subheadings, print styles, white space, captions and chapter headings help me gain information? What are verbs? What are main and helping verbs?
Social Studies: Chapter 10: Forming a New Government What is the Constitutional Convention? What are the goals of the Constitution? What are the three branches of government and how do they function? Lesson 1 vocabulary & facts test Thursday.
Special Announcements:
· Due to our upcoming Spring Break, the length of vocabulary and amount of material needed to know for Chapter 10, there will be a quiz on Social Studies Lesson 1 vocabulary and facts on Thursday, April 9th. Flashcards were created Friday, April 3rd and study guides came home Friday. It is also posted on our class website (www.freewebs.com/vargo4thgrade).

MAP Math
I just wanted to brag on all of my students!! They have worked very hard all year long and made impressive gains on their MAP math test for spring!! I am very proud of each and everyone of them!! Keep up the good work! Now lets prepare for PASS in May!
